The above pitch video demonstrates synthesis in the direction of my autoethnographic research of the podcast ExtraOrdinary Outback stories. This included producing an aim and audience, field mapping, research planning and ethical considerations. The research will entail my own observations as an audience member about what they do to attract new listeners. The research will be recorded over a four-week period, detailing the process of the podcasters, their content and what I observe as a part of their audience.
When looking forward to my research, I found it extremely useful to look at what was included in this week’s lecture on digital ethnographers, in particular the ‘Five Principles of a Digital Ethnographer’. This relates to my research as when recording my field notes I need to ensure that I am not always focused on one element, looking at the domains of activity and remaining updated throughout the weeks that I maintain a journal. Due to this, I need to ensure that I provide detailed notes on a daily basis on what I myself are experiencing and what content they produce. In addition, it is also necessary to make sure that I am always contingent on interpretation and being reflexive in my observations.
Just another quick note before I get started as well, in addition to the ethical concerns mentioned, their are some within the podcast itself such as how they interview people, how they maintain ethical interview processes, whether they pay them for their stories and how they frame them on social media. This is something I will have to research further when i get stuck into it.
Essentially, this will require a detailed auto-ethnographic notes on the elements described in the field map and also observing any changes or additional information. This will create enough evidence to draw conclusions and extract evidence for the purpose of audience/creator relationships.
